Favorite Things Birthday Party

I wanted to share a few details from the little birthday party that I threw for my son's 5th birthday.  I had 2 ideas for it...simple & swim party.  I came up with the idea to do a "favorite things" party, but mostly just adapted that to the favor bags.
Since the party was small & would be mostly in the pool, I kept myself from doing anything else extravagant or not worth the effort for 5 year olds!  For our invitations, I wrote on some french fry containers from Hobby Lobby, to share the details of the party.
I threw in some favorite color blue paper & stuffed it full of french fries...another favorite!
So we swam, ate ice cream sandwiches, opened presents & swam some more!  Easy, the kids loved it & I was stress free!  The favor bag items were handpicked by the birthday boy himself.
The blue paper bags had a tag attached that read, "Blue paper packages tied up with string, these are a few of Clayton's favorite things".  I threw on some tickets & bakers twine for cute decor purposes!

Picking out the items was a fun event in itself, and made my son even more excited for his party.  A whoopee cushion, a coloring book pack (each one was different), slinky, Lego packs (from Target), M&M's, Z-bar, and of course blue bubbles.
This may have been the simplest party I've ever thrown and I did have to control myself a LOT, but I think it turned out awesome!

DIY Giant Confetti

Birthdaaaaaays! Are you tired of hearing me say that word yet?!  No? Good! Because I've got another birthday celebration-worthy DIY for you.  Giant confetti has been on my "make" list for a while.  Such a random thing for me to have on my list, right? But it's a pretty fun thing though!  I figured out the best way to make it was to use card stock to get a good, clean cut using the punch. take a single (folded) sheet of tissue paper and fold over once in between a piece of card stock & punch away!

Wood & Number Cake Toppers

Birthday month still in full effect around here! here are some easy color-blocked style cake toppers.  Right now I don't have a picture of them ACTUALLY topping a cake, since the time hasn't come to use them.  But once I do, I'll be sure to update this post. So for now just use your imagination...and happy celebrating!

Month of Birthdays Part 1

I've been at odds with myself about blogging.  I get in these spurts where I want to blog EVERYDAY...only problem is I don't do crafty things everyday.
Today after reading The Nie Nie Dialogues  (one of my favorite blogs) and I had a lightbulb go off.  Just because I don't make something crafty everyday, doesn't mean I'm not allowed to blog.  I can write about whatever I want- and the blog police won't arrest me.
So that's my plans.  When I craft- I'll blog it.  When I don't craft- I'll blog it.  Why not?  Maybe someone will get something useful out of what I have to say....or at least get a good laugh from me!

I turned 22 2 days ago...it's funny how birthdays become less exciting the older you get!
(going to get donuts in our jammies-per Melcher family tradition, our yummy donuts, balloons,
birthday root beer, yummy cupcakes, flowers & cake)
Clayton & I laid low for the day, & 2 good friends here stopped by with goodies. Thanks girls!

Clayton just turned 1 & I still find it hard to believe!  July is the month of birthdays in our home- up next is my husband!
